The Germany-China Internet Industry Roundtable held in Berlin

2015-07-05 16:16

The Germany-China Internet Industry Roundtable was held in Berlin on Friday, focusing on “China: Internet +,” “Germany: Industry 4.0” and cooperation between German and Chinese Internet industries.

Representatives from the Chinese Internet Development Fund, the Internet Society of China and Chinese Internet companies and their German counterparts were present at the meeting.

A consensus was reached that China and Germany should deepen existing cooperation on Internet issues, look for new areas for collaboration and combine their areas of expertise to their mutual benefit.

The two sides also agreed to integrate technology with markets, match projects with capital and accelerate collaboration on network security, digital economy, cross-border e-commerce and smart urban planning.

Agreements were also signed between the Chinese Internet Development Fund and BITKOM; China Mobile and Rohde & Schwarz; and Cheetah Mobile, Inc., and Avira.

Chinese IT practitioners who attended the roundtable said Chinese Internet companies could boost their growth if they cooperated with international partners.

Gao Xinmin, vice president of the Internet Society of China, said, “We want Chinese Internet companies to maintain growth. There will of course be challenges but we want Chinese Internet companies to sustain their creativity, attend to users’ needs and boost international cooperation, embracing international markets with a receptive attitude.”

German technology professionals who were at the roundtable said they hoped to form mutually beneficial partnerships with Chinese companies.

Dr. Joachim Buehler, a BITKOM board member, said, “Germany’s strengths are in traditional industries such as machinery manufacturing, industrial manufacturing and chemical engineering, while China’s strengths are in communications technology and IT services. I think China and Germany should combine traditional industries with digitization to their mutual benefit.”
